Stargate Universe is the third live-action series in the Stargate franchise, created by Brad Wright and Robert C. Cooper. It begins when a group of evacuees is transported aboard the Destiny, an ancient starship traveling far beyond known space, with no immediate way home.
The series shifts the franchise toward a more somber, serialized style, emphasizing resource scarcity, leadership disputes, and the psychological strain of isolation. Robert Carlyle leads the cast as Dr. Nicholas Rush, whose scientific ambitions often clash with Colonel Everett Young’s military pragmatism. The show explores how people with conflicting agendas survive together under pressure, and how hope persists even in desperate circumstances.
Though it ran for only two seasons, Stargate Universe is remembered for its ambition and strong performances. Fans of the franchise and of thoughtful space drama appreciate its willingness to take risks, making the complete series a worthwhile addition to a science fiction collection.
